The municipality of Buenache de la Sierra (90 inhabitants in 2018; 5,748 ha); municipal website) is located 20 km north-east of Cuenca.
Buenache was first mentioned in a charter granted in 1281 by the Council of Cuenca to Ruy Fernández, who was granted the domain of Cotillas, Buenache included. The village mas probably established after the reconquest of Cuenca by Alfonso VIII.
Buenache is a diminutive form, through Bohanache and Bonache, of bodón / bohón, "a muddy place".

The flag of Buenache de la Sierra is prescribed by an Order issued on 1 June 2005 by the Government of Castilla-La Mancha and published on 10 June 2005 in the official gazette of Castilla-La Mancha, No. 116, pp. 11,868-11.869 (text).
The flag is described as follows:

Flag: Rectangular, in proportions three in length on two in width, crimson with the municipal coat of arms in the center.

The coat of arms is described as follows:

Coat of arms: Quarterly, 1. Argent a gladiolus vert flowered proper, 2. Argent a savin juniper vert the trunk proper, 3. Gules a handshake proper, 4. Azure a hammer and a sledgehammer argent crossed in saltire. Inescutcheon oval argent fimbriated argent two mounts vert. A bordure or 24 savin fruit purpure. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.
