Presentation of Pinos Puente

The municipality of Pinos Puente (10,718 inhabitants in 2014; 9,188 ha; municipal website) is located 15 km north-west of Granada. The municipality is made of the town of Pinos Puente and of the settlements of Casanueva (1,472 inh.), Zujaira (916 inh.), Trasmulas (210 inh.) and Fuensantas (217 inh.).

Pinos Puente is located on river Pinos, crossed by three bridges (puentes): the bridge of the Virgin, of Visigothic-Muslim origin (11th century), the Railway / Iron bridge, and the road (Granada-Córdoba) bridge.
Casanueva (lit., New House) was first documented in 1472, 20 years before the Christian reconquest, as Dar-Al-Yidid (lit., New House).
Zujaira, also of Arab origin, is famous for its stone quarries established on the site of a Neolithic necropolis.
Trasmulas was a Nasrid estate.
Fuensante is named for the fountain (fuente) near which the village was established in the 1960s, mostly settled by inhabitants from Trasmulas.

Symbols of Pinos Puente

The flag (photo, photo, photo) and arms of Pinos Puente, adopted on 15 July 1991 by the Municipal Council and validated on 27 March 1992 by the Royal Academy of History, are prescribed by Decree No. 93, adopted on 26 May 1992 by the Government of Andalusia and published on 9 July 1992 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 64, p. 5,521 (text). This was confirmed by a Decree adopted on 30 November 2004 by the Directorate General of the Local Administration and published on 20 December 2004 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 246, pp. 28,986-29,002 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: Rectangular, in proportions 2:3, vertically divided into three parts, the lateral, green, in length 1/4 of the flag's length, and the central, white with a green pine.
Coat of arms: Per pale, 1. Or five pines eradicated vert, 2. Vert a bridge ensigned by a chapel argent on waves. The shield surmounted by a Royal Spanish crown.

The arms are canting, showing pines (pinos) and a bridge (puente), here the bridge of the Virgin. The five pines represent the five settlements forming the municipality.
