The municipality of Cebrones del Río (512 inhabitants in 2015; 2,121 ha; unofficial blog) is located in the south of León Province, 50 km of León. The municipality is made of the villages of Cebrones del Río (capital), San Juan de Torres (176 inh.) and San Martín de Torres (170 inh.).

Cebrones is said to have been founded during the Muslim rule by the Saabrun tribe. A more popular etymology refers to the local small horses, called cebros, reared in the valley of river (río) Órbigo. A canal originally built by the Romans once supplied the "four councils" of San Juan de Torres, Villanueva de Jamuz, Quintana del Marco, and Genestacio with the river's water.

Symbols of Cebrones del Río

The flag and arms of Cebrones del Río are prescribed by a Decree adopted on 17 May 2002 by the Municipal Council, signed on 5 August 2002 by the Mayor, and published on 21 August 2002 in the official gazette of Castilla y León, No. 161, pp. 11,095-11,096 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: With proportions 2:3. Tierced at hoist, at fly a red panel with two yellow (or or) [most probably, white, to match the coat of arms] affronted horses, at hoist, blue (or azure), a yellow (or or) tower surrounded on top and bottom with two yellow (or or) stars.
Coat of arms: Of Spanish shape. Gules two wild horses (or cebras) affronty argent over waves azure and argent ensigned with a star or and holding a tower or. The shield surmounted with a Royal Spanish crown.

The flag and arms are a straightforward rebus of "Cebrones (horses) del Río (river)"; the tower (torre) with the two stars must represent San Juan de Torres and San Martin de Torres.
