Presentation of Páramo de Boedo

The municipality of Páramo de Boedo (126 inhabitants in 2019; 2,276 ha) is located 70 km from Palencia. The municipality is made of the villages of Páramo (capital), Villaneceriel de Boedo (15 inh.) and Zorita del Páramo (39 inh.).
Páramo de Boedo got its name from Latin paramos, "a flat land", and river Boedo, watering the municipality. Villaneceriel could have been "Nazariel's estate". Zorita means "a forest dove of blue color".

The tiny municipality of Páramo de Boedo, located in the center of "Empty Spain", recently gained unexpected media coverage because of its Romanian mayor - of course, Spain's first ever and single Romanian mayor.
Aurel Truta (PP), born in Alba Iulia, emigrated to Spain two decades ago. He worked as an olive gatherer in Andalusia, in hotels in Benidorm and eventually opened its own cafeteria in Alcalá de Henares. Subsequently public contractor in Madrid, he built a rural inn in San Cristóbal de Boedo and purchased his own in the neighboring village of Páramo de Boedo 12 years ago. Elected Mayor in 2015, he was re-elected in 2019.
