The flag of Carmona, adopted on 7 September 1990 by the Municipal Council and validated by the Royal Academy of History, is prescribed by Decree No. 52, adopted on 17 March 1992 by the Government of Andalusia and published on 5 May 1992 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 37, pp. 2,464-2,465 (text). This was confirmed by a Decree adopted on 30 November 2004 by the Directorate General of the Local Administration and published on 20 December 2004 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 246, pp. 28,986-29,002 (text).
The flag is described as follows:
Flag: Rectangular flag, in non specified proportions, vertically divided in three parts of equal width, blue at fly and host and white in the center.
The banner and the coat of arms of Carmona, adopted on 30 September 1994 by the Municipal Council and validated by the Royal Academy of Córdoba, is prescribed by Decree No. 249, adopted on 10 October 1995 by the Government of Andalusia and published on 29 November 1995 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 153, p. 11,278 (text). This was confirmed by a Decree adopted on 30 November 2004 by the Directorate General of the Local Administration and published on 20 December 2004 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 246, pp. 28,986-29,002 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:
Banner: Banner rounded-off like a crescent, in proportions 11:18. A blue panel with an eight-pointed white star, a bordure compony of yellow castles port and windows azure on red and of purple lions rampant crowned in yellow langued and armed in red, on red.
Coat of arms: Shield in Spanish shape. Azure an eight-rayed star argent, a bordure argent inscribed with "SICVT LVCIFER LVCET IN AVRORA ITA IN VANDALIA CARMONA". The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.
The star and the motto ("Carmona shines in Andalusia like the morning star shines at sunset") seem the refer to the shining morning star that appeares to the eyes of Fernando II, allowing him to see the inexpugnable fortifications watched by several warriors; accordingly, the king decided that an attack would be useless, and ordered to destroy the grapevines, the gardens and the houses in the neighborhood.
