Presentation of ACA

The Athletic Club Ajaccio / Aiacciu (ACA; website) was founded in 1910. The club got the professional status from 1965 to 1974, winning the French Second League in 1974.
Following the win of the National Championship (highest amateur division) in 1998, ACA was re-incorporated into the professional league; ACA won the Second League in 2002 and joined the First League. Back to the Second League in 2005, ACA joined back the First League in 2011. The club then hit the headlines in July 2011 by signing in Guillermo Ochoa (b. 1985), the goalkeeper of the Mexican national team (50 matches since 2005), and, again, in August 2012 (left in 2014), by signing the Romanian forward Adrian Mutu (b. 1979; 77 matches with the Romanian national team since 2000).
ACA is a stronghold of the Corsican identity. The club is presided by Alain Orsoni (b. 1954), a prominent member of the Corsican nationalist sphere in the 1990s, now retired from politics. The club challenges leadership on Corsican football exerted by Sporting Club de Bastia; it is also engaged in a fierce rivalry with the other club based in Ajaccio, Gazélec Football Club Ajaccio.

Several Corsican footballers have proudly played with ACA, such as the goalkeeper Dominique "Doumé" Baratelli (b. 1947; 116 matches with ACA in 1967-1971; 21 matches with the French national team in 1972-1982; winner of the French Cup with Paris-Saint-Germain in 1982 and 1983), the midfielder Jean-Jean Marcialis (120 matches with ACA in 1965-1969), the forward Étienne Sansonnetti (b. 1935; top scorer in the 1968 First League - 26 goals); the defender Sébastien Squillaci (b. 1980; 74 matches with ACA in 2000-2002; winner of the French championship with AS Monaco in 2000 and with Olympique Lyonnais in 2007 and 2008; 21 matches with the French national team in 2004-2010), and the defender Albert Vanucci (b. 1947; winner of the French championship with AS Monaco in 1978; 162 matches with ACA in 1965-1971; two matches with the French national team in 1974).
The most famous player ever of ACA is the defender Marius Trésor (b. 1950 in Sainte-Anne, Guadeloupe), who started his professional career in ACA (1969-1972; 102 matches) and then played with Olympique de Marseille (1972-1980; 298 matches; winner of the French Cup in 1976) and Girondins de Bordeaux (1980-1984; 116 matches; winner of the national championship in 1984). Marius Trésor played 65 times with the French national team in 1971-1983; 4 goals). Marius Trésor was registered in 2004 on "FIFA 100", the list of the greatest living footballers established by Pelé.
Another emblematic player of ACA is the forward François M'Pelé, from the Republic of Congo (1968-1973; 149 matches, 71 goals; winner and bes player of the African Cup of Nations in 1972).

The upper left quarter is charged with a Moor's head, the traditional emblem of Corsica, while the upper right quarter is charged with a black version of the column and lions from the municipal arms of Ajaccio. The lower half of the shield is white five red vertical stripes, a direct reference to the team's home colours.
White and red are the traditional colours of the club. The players are nicknamed "Bianch'é Rossi" (in Corsican, White and Red).
