Local Council Jish (Gush Halav) (The official name include its
name in both languages: Jish in Arabic, Gush Halav in Hebrew) is
situated in the Upper Galilee, NW of Zefat
and north of Mt. Meron. It is known from the Roman era with many
changes in the population ingredients. Now with 2,500 inh most of
them Maronite Christians and the rest Muslims.
In my visit there were no flags on the city hall. I was told that
in case of need a white flag with emblem (colour not known) is
used. Flag only probable until confirmed. The municipal emblem
was published in the official gazette (Rashumot),
'Publications Gazette' section (Yalkut ha'Pirsumim), YP
1286, 30 June 1966.

Local Council since 1963. The origin of the name is an ancient
Jewish settlement from the era of the Jewish riot against the
Romans. The name Gush Halav (Milk Block) is attributed
either to the white chalk rocks of the area or to its milk
producing past. The current village was established in the 18th
Cent. by Lebanese Christians on the ruins of a former Druze
village.
