Local Council Kafar Qasem is situated on the border between
the Sharon and Samaria Mounts regions, 8 km NE to Petah Tikva . Est. about 300 years ago
and a Local Council since 1959. The unofficial flag is white with
the emblem in natural colours. Unfortunately I only have a BW
emblem for the above image. The municipal emblem was published in
the official gazette (Rashumot), 'Publications Gazette'
section (Yalkut HaPirsumim), YP 3833, 10 January 1991.

The origin of the name Kefar Qasem is uknown. Some connect it
to the ancient Samaritan village Kefar Qesem. The current village
was established in early 19th Century. According to the
cease-fire agreements with Jordan (1949), it was transferred to
Israel. The village hit the headlines in 29 October 1956, when 43
of its inhabitants that didn't knew about a curfew that was
imposed on the village due to 1956 Sinai war, were killed by
Border Guard troops. At the trial that was followed, the court
convicted the battalion commander and other troops as followers
of illegal order and they were sentence to imprisonment. Kafar
Qasem is also the birthplace of the Israeli Islamic movement in
the 1970'.
