The Municipality of Ofaqim is situated in the Western Negev area, about 24 km from Be'er Sheva. It has about 25,000 inh. Ofaqim was established in 1955 in the middle of the desert and its name (meaning horizons) come to mark the plain area in which the observer can see wide horizons around. Mrs. Oshra Segal, the municipality spokewomen, wrote me that Ofaqim has got an official emblem, approved by the city council on 6 May 1997. The municipality has got no official flag and in case of need the emblem is placed on monochrome fabric (not necessarily white as my image). Translated from the letter:
The upper part of the emblem is combined from three elements a tube which symbolizes science and medicine, olive branches which symbolize era of peace. The brush symbolizes art making. The central part has three elements too sun as origin of light, buildings symbolizing building and doing, and triangle symbolizing horizon. The frame of the emblem symbolizes the tablets of the ten commendments.
She noted that the emblem which she sent should have black
instead of grey.

The municipal emblem was published in the official gazette (Rashumot),
YP 4537, 26 June 1997. It replaced the previous emblem of the
Local Council Ofaqim, published YP 1173, 8 April 1965.
Ofaqim became a Local Council in 1959 and a Municipality in 1995.

When I visited Krakow Ghetto there were some municipal flags
left by previous delegations, some very interesting to me, one of
them that of Ofaqim: a white flag charged with blue emblem.
