Official symbols of Campeche

According to the article 5th of the Campeche State Constitution, “the official mandatory symbols for the State are the national, anthem and coat of arms, as well as the State's Anthem and Coat of Arms ”. The same article states that “shall not be neither other flags, anthems, nor coats of arms, and the usage of the National Symbols shall be regulated by Federal rules.”

Chapter II
About the official symbols

Article 5th The National flag, anthem, and coat of arms, as well as the state’s anthem and coat of arms, are the mandatory symbolos of the state. There shall not be any other official flags, anthems nor coat of arms. Usage of such symbols are subject to national regulation.

Quoted and translated by Juan Manuel Gabino Villascán, July 20, 2002.

The text “There shall not be any other official flags, anthems nor coats of arms” stands for any other symbols that are not of the State. Since Campeche do have a coat of arms and an anthem for its own, it means, therefore, that the State may actually have its own flag. It fact, the State of Campeche has already adopted an armorial flag or standard.

San Francisco de Campeche

[Standard of San Francisco de Campeche]

Reported by Juan Manuel Gabino Villascán, 27 September 2019

The city of San Francisco de Campeche, state’s capital, has no flag for its own, instead, a white standard charged with the city’s arms is used in holidays, such as the anniversary celebration of the city’s foundation.

Juan Manuel Gabino Villascán, 27 September 2019

A red and blue bicolor has been erroneously reported as the flag of the city. Such an assumption comes from the cover photo of the book Estado de Campeche, Nueva Guía, ISBN 968543705XA,where decorative pennants in red and blue are hoisted from the walls of the fort San Miguel. Red and blue are colors taken form the quarters of the city’s arms, and unofficially are used to represent both the city and the state.
