Barneveld municipality

The municipality of Barneveld has almost 50.000 inhabitants. It is made up of Barneveld town and surrouding towns and villages: Voorthuizen, Kootwijkerbroek, Garderen, Terschuur, Stroe, Zwartebroek, De Glind and Kootwijk.
The flag was adopted by municipal resolution on 12 Feb 1965. The three columns have been derived from the family-arms of J. H. Baron van Zuylen van Nievelt van de Schaffelaar, who was responsible for the construction of roads in and around Barneveld. The name of Jan van Schaffelaar is well known in Dutch history, because he jumped off the tower of Barneveld in 1482, during the "Hoekse en Kabeljauwse Twisten".

Kootwijkerbroek

[village flag] image by Valentin Poposki, 9 December 2023

From https://www.ovkwb.nl/kootwijkerbroekse-vlag:

During the opening of the Puurveense Mill, the Kootwijkerbroek flag was raised for the first time. The Kootwijkerbroek flag is an initiative of the Kootwijkerbroek Entrepreneurs Association and Local Interest. Young and old submitted design suggestions. The best designs, by Arjan van 't Goor and Rianne van Lagen, were combined into the final design.

The flag may hang outside all year round, preferably especially on Saturdays when the mill is running.
Blue represents the sky and wind represents the mill, green represents the land. Traditionally, in Kootwijkerbroek, a living was earned with the wind and on the land.
The wavy line refers to the Kootwijk swamp area, which Kootwijkerbroek traditionally was.
The white stripe with the white circle also forms a bird, the symbol of freedom and responsibility. The head protrudes actively and the wings are stretched wide, as Kootwijkerbroek is always actively moving.
The blades not only refer to the Puurveense Mill but also to the rays of the sun and in their foursome they represent farmers, citizens, outdoorsy people and companies.

Stroe

[village flag] image located by Valentin Poposki, 9 December 2023

The flag of the Gelderland village of Stroe has been in use in its current form since 2019 and was unveiled during the Zomer In Gelderland event.

The Stroese flag basically consists of two areas in green and purple, which are diagonally separated from each other. The green part may refer to the nearby forests of the Veluwe and the purple to the heathlands. Deer antlers and pine cone can be seen in the center of the flag, probably also symbols of the wooded area in which the village is located.

Voorthuizen

adopted 4 July 2009

The village of Voorthuizen is part of the municipality of Barneveld.
The National Championship of "Dweilorkesters"* took place this year in Voorthuizen.
As reported by "Barneveldse Krant", 7 July 2009, the organizers of the event have offerred on 4 July a flag to the village of Voorthuizen, which lacks one. The villagers expect the flag to be officially approved by the municipality of Barneveld.
The flag is quartered purple-green by a blue cross, with a big yellow fleur-de-lis placed over the cross - with a colour photo of the flag

* The "dweilorkester" are street bands playing carnaval music. They used to ramble from cafe to cafe, an act called in Brabantian Dutch "weilen", that is "rambling in the streets passably drunk" , therefore their name. See  "Dweilorkest" in Wikipedia.

Ivan Sache, 15 Jul 2009

Wikipedia shmikipedia: a "dweilorkest" is playing during "dweilpauzes", when the ice is being prepared for the next races of speedskating matches, in order to prevent the crowds from becoming overly drunk. It started long, long ago when the "Blauhúster Dakkapel" started playing when the first big Zambonis appeared in Heerenveen's Thialf-stadium, and other orchestras followed, playing everywhere all over the land.
"Dweilorkesten" will undoubtedly be playing during the Nijmeegse Vierdaagse, due to start today.
Jarig Bakker, 21 Jul 2009

And the flag disappeared on 5 July, to resurface only ten days later in Noord-Holland!
"Barneveldse Krant", 16 July 2009, shows a photo, anonymously sent, of the flag hoisted in front of a road signal at Enkhuizen. The inhabitants of Voorthuizen are not pleased at all, and expect the flag to be back to Voorthuizen as soon as possible.
