Koewacht former municipality
Koewacht (meaning: cow-watch) is a former municipality in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen,
since 1970 part of Axel municipality, and since 2003 part of Terneuzen.
It had possibly a flag: hor. green-yellow-green (?) (according to Mr.
Hans van Heijningen; Ir Beenhakker mentioned in his article, that Koewacht
had an official flag).
Flagproposal: At c. 1/3 of flaglength a vertical green stripe over
alying, equally narrow red stripe at half flagheight, all on a yellow field.
The flag for this double-village on the Belgian border is based on
the municipal arms.
Through the yellow cornfields runs the (red) border, but this is interrupted
by the villagestreet, connecting both villages right through the border.
Green is also the color of flax, the main product on both sides of the
border

Koewacht Coat of Arms
by Jarig Bakker, 27 Oct 2004, based on image in the Koffie
Hag Album.
Granted 31 Jul 1817
.
Coat of arms: or a cow gules, standing between three trees on a loose
terrace, all vert.
There is a tradition that after a certain area of eastern Zeeuws-Vlaanderen
had been flooded, people met a cow waiting between some trees.
