O. Tønnevold, Grimstad - blue swallowtail, white "T".
Jarig Bakker, 11 February 2005

We see a blue swallowtail bearing a white serifed initial "T", the source being Wedge, F.J.N.; Brown's Flags and Funnels of British and Foreign Steamship Companies; 1926 [wed26] . A slightly later appearance is Flaggenbuch Teil II (Fla. B. II) [d9e28]
Jan Mertens, 31 March, 2011

O. T. Tønnevold AS of Grimstad nowadays the firm uses a rectangular flag and an initial without serifs: http://www.ott.no/index.php?menuid=1&expand=1
This family business founded by O.T. Tønnevold in 1875 flew the swallowtail on ships like ‘Siam’ operated 1908-1923:
http://www.ott.no/images.php/original/119/11%20Siam%2020x30%20(600%20x%20400)%20resize.jpg
Tanker business developed but during WWII a split occurred resulting in two Tønnevold firms reunited, finally, in 1990. Currently container ships are operated as well, moreover OTT has diversified into property and technology investments. Oddly, the ‘Fleet’ section under ‘Shipping’ (upper menu) lists only one unsold ship, sailing under the British flag.
The two house flags are shown by skipet.no without chronological reference (and no serifs).

Odd Godager & Company

image by Ivan Sache, 21 September 2010

The Odd Godager & Company was headquartered in Oslo, Norway. This version of their flag was shown by Brown in both the 1971 and 1978 editions.
Neale Rosanoski, 18 October 2008

modified by Pete Loeser, 21 September 2010

The Odd Godager & Company flag is also shown with a white field and letter, but whether this version is correct is questionable. It may have been taken from Brown (1958) which shows the white variant, while at the same time indicating in their notes that this is incorrect and the white should be yellow. The U.S. Navy Merchant Marine House Flags and Stack Insignia (1961) also shows the white version.

Based in Narvik - a horizontal White-Red-White flag, in center white diamond, blue "O".

Formed 1987 by the amalgamation of D/S Vesteraalens and A/S Ofotens D/S and in 1989 absorbed Nord-Ferjer A/S. Brown 1995 [4] shows the flag as having narrow white bands top and bottom
Neale Rosanoski, 11 December 2003

Ofotens og Vesterålens Dampskibsselskab ASA (Norwegian Shipping Company). Of the 1st two flags shown under this title, the first by Jorge can be confirmed as an actual flag being flown by ships in photos dated 1995 and 2005. The 2nd version by Jarig from Brown 1995 therefore either predates it or it has been mistakenly recorded being thought to be in line with the funnel markings where the main red band with diamond and "O" is edged top and bottom by narrow white bands. Usually one would expect the funnel design to be the same as the flag but in this case apparently not [unless changed].

Ofotens Dampskipsselskap

Ofotens Dampskipsselskap image by Klaus-Michael Schneider, 27 January 2009

Established 24 July 1912 in Narvik.

Description of flag: It is red flag with a white stripe at the top and bottom edge. In the red field is a white lozenge with a black capital "O".
Klaus-Michael Schneider, 27 January 2009

Ofotens Dampskipsselskap. Although no source is given for this, by the date I suspect that it is also sourced from the Hamburg Exhibition about Hurtigruten which would then give it authenticity although having the "O" black instead of a dark blue is somewhat surprising in getting away from the Norwegian colours. The only portrayal that I can find for the company is from http://www.skipet.no  which shows only the one flag for Ofotens D/S A/S 1912-1987 and then Ofotens Vesteraalens D/S A/S 1988-2006 [after which it merged into the new Hurtigruten Group ASA] and that is the 1st version above as shown by Jorge for Ofotens og Vesterålens Dampskisselskab ASA.
Neale Rosanoski, 15 April 2011

Seat: Narvik
The company was established on 24 July 1912 to undertake local services in the Narvik area, followed by an express service from Narvik to Trondheim. In 1924 the new vessel NORDNORGE was completed. Ofotend became a partner of the coastal express serviceon 1 October 1936, and Narvik was visited every week since then. After WW2 the company lost its position within coastal express service, but started a cargo service between Trondheim and Finnmark instead. The company became a temporary partner of the express line again in 1952 and established a permanent base in 1964. In the 1980ies the company expanded by overtaking Vesteraalens Dampskibsselskab, Nord Ferjer and later on Saltens Dampskibsselskab. Merging with Vesteraalens Dampskibsselskab on 1 January 1988 the company emerged as Ofotens og Vesteraalens Dampskibsselskab (OVDS). OVDS today stands as a diversified transport group with six ships in the coastal express line as well as a major holding in Nor-Cargo and extensive local services.

Olympic Subsea ASA, "your partner in blue energy", operates one of the world’s most modern and flexible fleets within subsea and renewable energy, offering the following services:
- subsea and construction: Inspection, maintenance and repair, cable laying and cable repair, specialized projects, accommodation support and walk2work,remote operator vehicle services, installation & heavy lift;
- renewable energy: cable laying and cable repair, accommodation support and walk2work, remote operator vehicle services, operations & maintenance, unexploded ordnance survey, boulder clearance, mattress laying, installation.

Founder Stig Remøy started as a fisherman only 15 years old. At 19, he bought his first vessel. When he was 21, while studying to become marine master, he sailed as a skipper for the first time. Remøy gradually broadened his maritime interests and acquired his first two offshore vessels. Together with a trawler this was the basis for Olympic Shipping, which Remøy founded together with Bjørn Inge Kvalsund in 1996.
Through Remøy’s entrepreneurial drive, Olympic became an early mover in the subsea industry. From the start, the Olympic companies have invested more than 12 billion NOK in modern, flexible and cost efficient vessels – all built in yards connected to the maritime cluster around Olympic’s home base of Fosnavåg.
Through a restructuring of the company in February 2017, Olympic Subsea is financially strong and healthy – enabling the company to become the most specialized, financial robust and agile ship owner in the blue energy sector.

The company fleet is composed of:
- 4 Multipurpose Offshore Vessels: "Olympic Orion", "Olympic Taurus", "Olympic Commander", "Olympic Intervention IV";
- 2 Inspection, Maintenance and Repair Vessels: "Olympic Artemis", "Olympic Delta";
- 1 Multifunctional Subsea Support & Construction Vessel: "Olympic Ares";
- 1 Anchor Handling Tug Supply and Offshore Construction Vessel: "Olympic Zeus";
- 1 Multifunctional Subsea Vessel: "Olympic Triton";
- 1 Light Construction / ROV Support Vessel: "Olympic Challenger";
