Carlão e Amieiro United Commune (Portugal)

Logo

The commune either has not yet proper symbols or they are unknown. But there is a logo known (see image at top) in use. It features some elements present in the former Amieiro communal arms and although not a heraldic logo, it is Heraldry inspired — shield-shaped with stylized grey masonry coronet with three merlons, and a shield divided in 5 parts — a base and quadrants.
The boat is on the base, red on dark blue with white wave, there is an alder leaf on the lower dexter, green on yellow with red catkins on the leaf (some botanical misconceptions here), a red fountain effervescent dark blue on light blue at the upper dexter, a quarter sliced fig at the upper sinister, on yellowish green with dark teal skin and showing red pulp with white pericarp, and at the lower sinster what seems to be a pre-historic petroglyph in red on black.

Former Carlão Commune (until 2013)

Presentation of Carlão

Carlão was one of the 14 communes of Alijó Municipality affected by the 2013 changes. It had 719 inhabitants in 2011 and covered 26,49 km².
One may speculate that Carlão was in the process of having its symbols approved as of 2012 and that the elements on the proposed coat of arms are the fountain and/or the fig and/or the petroglyph. This is likely since Amieiro did have its symbols approved, in 2002, and, of the two, Carlão was the most important, being the "seat" of the new commune. I suspect that the approval this conjectural proposed coat of arms was delayed due to the presence of an unusual element — likely the petroglyph: The CHAAP will often allow unheraldic elements, but, as gossip goes, not without some offscene back-and-forth with the local authorities, pushing for standardized charges and ordinaries.

Coat of Arms

[Amieiro commune CoA (until 2013)] image by Sérgio Horta, 20 Mar 2024

Shield Or with base wavy Azure charged with a barrulet wavy Argent an eradicated alder Vert fruited Gules, issuant from base a boat Sable garnished Argent. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll in short toponym style reading in black upper case serifed letters "AMIEIRO".
Meaning:
The word "amieiro" is Portuguese for "alder", usually meaning the species Alnus glutinosa (a.k.a. common alder, black alder, European alder, and European black alder). The arms are therefore partly canting.
