Meaning:
The lattice is symbolizing a fishing net and referring to documents from 1613 and 1633, in which a struggle between the fishermen of Cortegaça and nearby Esmoriz is mentioned. It is also referring to the art of producing nets in the area. The close relationship between Santa Marinha and the Couto de Cortegaça since the 12th century til nowadays had been proven by two documents: 1) in Censual da Sé do Porto (1174-1185) referring to a local church dedicated to the saint, and 2) named explicitely as "Santa Marinha de Couto de Cortegaça" in 1825. The quinas refer to King Dom Sancho I, granted as a mark of honour and confirmed in 1288 by King Dom Dinis. The base wavy, having green waves, is referring to the Atlantic.
