Shield Gules, issuant from chief a demi eagle Argent, holding a vixen Gules by his claws, on dexter chief a cross an impending cross Or. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case serifed letters "LAGE - VILA VERDE".
Meaning:
The demi eagle is fairly unusual, here being the lower part of the bird. There is an indeed strange legend as follows: Having managed to free herself from the eagle, which had snatched her, a certain vixen, feeling helpless in the sky, afflicted to a slab (Portuguese: laje), against which she thought to fall down, she (said): "Vanish slab or I break you!"

Lage, also known as Laje, is one of the 21 communes of Vila Verde Municipality not affected by the 2013 changes; it had 3054 inhabitants in 2021 and covers 4,87 km².
