Devín (Hungarian: Dévény, German: Theben) has 769 inhabitants (1990
census). The settlement was a German (63%) - Slovakian (25%) - Hungarian
(10%) village in Pozsony (Slovakian: Presporok) district of Pozsony county
of Hungary till 1920 (Czechoslovakian occupation). 1920-1938 Czechoslovakian,
1939-1945 German (!!), and 1945-1992 Czechoslovakian. Devín, Petržalka,
Prievoz, Vajnory, Rača, Lamač, Dúbravka were absorbed by Bratislava in
1946. Jarovce, Cunovo, Rusovce, Podunajské Biskupice, Vrakuna, Devínska
Nová Ves, Zahorská Bystrica were absorbed by Bratislava in 1971. On the
territory of the Castle Ruins was a Roman fort later Moravian Castle. First
mentioned in 864 as a Moravian Border Castle. The castle was destroyed
in 1809 by Napoleon.
