The Chair of Child Health, deemed to be the origin of Hacettepe Faculty of Medicine, was founded as part of the Faculty of Medicine, Ankara University by Prof. Dr. İhsan Doğramacı on 2 February 1954. The foundation stone of the university was laid in 1957 with the Child Health Institute and Hospital within Hacettepe, which began its training, education and research activities and public services in 1958. The Nursing School, School of Medical Technology and School of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation were established in 1961. The School of Health Sciences offering education in the fields of Nutrition and Dietetics was founded in 1962. It later took the name of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences in 1963. Hacettepe Medical Center Hospital was founded in the same year.
These nucleus institutions were later chartered as Hacettepe University by Law No. 892, enacted on 8 July 1967, which began educational activities in the Faculties of Medicine, Health Sciences, Sciences and Social Sciences. İhsan Doğramacı (1915-2010) was a paedatrician and philanthropist of Iraqi Turkmen descent. The founding President of the Council of Higher Education of Turkey (1981-1992), he founded in 1984 Bilkent University, the first private university in Turkey. He was the last living signatory of the WHO Constitution (1946). and chaired the Board of UNICEF (1968-1970).

The flag of the university (photo, photo, photo, photo) is white with the university's emblem in the center.

The logo of the university was designed in 1967 by a student, Yücel Tanyeri, now Professor at the Ondokuz Mayıs University Faculty of Medicine:
One day, Prof. Dr. İhsan Doğramacı approached me and asked me to design a logo for the university in three days... However, I had a lot weight on my shoulders those days due to my upcoming exams, and needed a free mind and more time for such a serious work. But there was no turning back once Prof. Dr. İhsan Doğramacı asked something to be done.
I thought of the deer logo I drew for the Theater Club one year ago. The logo represented the Hittites in the Theater Club and the letters "H" and "T" for Hacettepe. In no time, I drew the logo more properly and submitted it to Prof. Dr. İhsan Doğramacı.
Soon the logo was anonymously accepted as the university logo at the Senate Meeting, a fact that I could not quite understand back in those days... But as Hacettepe University developed every day, I realized that it was one of the greatest things that ever happened to me... Moreover, I was honored that Prof. Dr. İhsan Doğramacı asked me to design a logo for Hacettepe University, as he knew well-known and talented artists who could very well assume the responsibility. But he wanted the logo of the university which he founded out of thin air with great efforts to be done by a student of that very university.
I saw the pride and joy Prof. Dr. İhsan Doğramacı took in this during the Logo Ceremony when I was presented a big bronze medallion... One side of the medallion reads “To Yücel Tanveri for winning the Hacettepe University Logo Contest…” and, under that, there is an open book and a burning candle, and the writing "Hacettepe University, 1967". On the other side of the medallion, there is the Hacettepe University Logo and the University Motto "TO THE LEADING EDGE… TOWARD BEING THE BEST...".

Social Sciences University of Ankara

Flag of ASBÜ - Image by Ivan Sache, 17 June 2017

Social Sciences University of Ankara (Ankara Sosyal Bilimler Üniversitesi - ASBÜ; website) was established in 2013. The university is composed of 5 Faculties (Social Sciences and Humanities, Political Sciences, Foreign Languages, Religious Sciences, and Law) and 5 Research Institutes (Social Sciences, East and Africa, Turkish World, Western World, and Islamic Studies).

The flag of ASBÜ (photo, photo) is white with the university's emblem in the middle.
The emblem ( detailed explanation) is derived from the historical building housing ASBÜ, originally designed in 1925 by architect Yahya Ahmet Bey as the office of the Prime Minister.
The arch is taken from the first floor of the central corps of the building.
The Tree of Life creates a vertical symbolism of ever-growing, rising life. It symbolizes the universe living in continuous development and change in a broad sense. With its roots descending to the depth of the earth, the underground, the lower branches, and the skyline of the sky combine with the ascendant paradise. The tree provides communication between earth and heaven.
