Description of the flag
The Hancock County (Indiana, USA) flag was designed by a group of participants in Leadership Hancock County in 2004. I was a member of the group that designed the flag. I believe the date was later corrected to 1828.
The gold stars represent the 9 townships of Hancock County. The upper left green field represents the county seat and largest city of the County "Greenfield". The green and gold fields represent agriculture, which has been the primary industry of the county. The white banner represents US 40 (the "National Road") which bisects the county. It's upward trajectory represents progress. The structure in the upper left is the Hancock County Courthouse. The date represents the year the county was formally organized.

- Similarly, four smaller gold 5-pointed stars with white trim are placed just below the disk on the yellow field, evenly spaced around the curve.
- The number "l828" (without quotes) in black antique script is located in the lower right corner of the flag within the yellow field.
- An outline graphic representation of the Hancock County Courthouse (view of East or West side of Courthouse) in black is located in the upper left corner of the flag within the green field.
Symbolism of Flag Elements:
- The green and yellow colors symbolize the County's agricultural heritage.
- The upper left "green field" also alludes to the city of Greenfield, the county seat and the County's largest community.
- The diagonal white stripe symbolizes the National Road (US 40) and its importance to the development of the County.
- The large centered white disk symbolizes the progress and prosperity of the County.
- The nine gold stars symbolize the nine townships of the County.
- The number 1828 represents the year the County was formed.
- The graphic representation represents the Hancock County Courthouse.
Adopted as the Hancock County Flag by the Hancock County Commissioners on March 29, 2004. Created by the Hancock County Flag Project Group (Leadership Hancock County 2004): Charles Bridenthal, Shelby Hoover, Debbie Powell, Mike Perigo, and Darren Turner
