On April 9, 1985, the Ingham County Board of Commissioners adopted an Ingham County flag to serve as an emblem for Ingham County. The flag was designed by Brian Whitfield and the Ingham County Arts Commission.
This flag consists of a white center field with wide cobalt blue bands on each side; centered in the flag is the seal of Ingham County in blue, circled by the words Ingham County, Michigan in red, which in turn is circled by a broken band of red and cobalt blue.

According to the Ingham County Historical Commission on Facebook, the J.L. Hudson Company of Detroit produced and then presented flags for every county in Michigan in 1941. Extensive research was done on the counties to ensure appropriate symbolism on their flags. All flags made for the counties were 5 by 8 feet and made of silk. Each flag has its county name on it. A committee in each county was also appointed by the company to identify and recommend the group to receive the county flag; these were presented to the designated group in the summer of 1941.
The flag for Ingham County was accepted by Board Chair Ralph W. Crego in August 1941 as official. The flag hung in the third floor of the county courthouse, where the Circuit Courtroom was located, for several decades until the current flag was adopted.
