Description of the flag

Flag from http://www.co.marion.oh.us/.  Red over white horizontal bicolor, blue triangle at hoist, with MARION COUNTY written in white on the red field, OHIO written red on the white field, and an image of the court house(?) in white on the blue field.
Dov Gutterman, 1 June 2002

Very similar to the flag of the City of Marion; the triangle at the hoist is however more acute, while the city flag has it at a 45 deg angle. Also, the Lincoln memorial in the triangle is more detailed, and "OHIO" in the lover white band is in red, instead of blue, and a bit larger.
Eugene Ipavec, 3 November 2005

What appears in the flag is not a Court House, but the Harding Memorial in Marion County, Ohio. It is an approximation of the Monument on the blue triangle. I assume the white elements beside the Mausoleum are bushes. The Harding Memorial is the final resting place of President Warren G. Harding and his wife Florence. President Harding died in 1923, and his wife died a few months later. They were buried in a temporary tomb in the Marion Cemetery until the memorial was completed. The memorial was designed by Henry Hornbostel and Eric Wood, and it is made of white Georgian Marble. The memorial is HUGE...it's over fifty feet tall and is about 103 feet in diameter. There are forty-six columns. It was very expensive to construct too, it cost $783,103!! Groundbreaking was in 1926, and construction was completed about a year later, in 1927. The official dedication was on June 16, 1931 by President Herbert Hoover.
Blas Delgado Ortiz, 5 November 2005

This red, white and blue flag features the name of the county in large letters. A blue triangle contains a picture of the Harding Tomb. Warren G. Harding of Marion, Ohio was one of the eight U.S. Presidents to come from this state.
Marion County was established in 1820. It was named in honor of General Francis "The Swamp Fox" Marion of the Revolutionary War.
