The Club Nacional de Football (Football National Club) was founded in May 14th 1899. It was born from the union of two previous teams: Uruguay Atletica Club and Montevideo Football Club. The team played its first game in June 18th 1899. Source: Club homepage.

The Club Nacional de Football or simply Nacional as it is called, is one of the two biggest football soccer teams from Uruguay. The other team is Peñarol. Both teams are big rivals. And the most famous football soccer game in Uruguay is Nacional Vs. Peñarol.

They chose the colors of Artigas' Flag (blue, white and red) for the club's clothing, the emblem, and the flag. That is why the team is known as "tricolor". The flag is blue with a white diagonal, and the acronym of the club's name in red letters. The inspiration for this flag came from the Artigas' Flag. The club's flag was created on May 23, 1902, as follows (original text in Spanish):
"In the Board session of May 16, 1902, Vice President Mr. Jorge Ballestero had proposed giving the Club a social flag. In the following session on May 23, Secretary Domingo Prat suggested the colors blue, white and red, and Ernesto Caprario presented a sketch of a blue flag, with a crossed white stripe and the inscription in red letters "C . N. de F”, which was unanimously approved. Finally, on June 30, Mr. Carlos Davie, Manager of the Montevideo Commercial Society, donated 10 pesos so that Nacional could make the Club's first flag. As a gesture of gratitude, the Board of Directors named Mr. Carlos Davie as an Honorary Member of the Institution."

Regarding the Coat of Arms, it "was created in 1925, the year in which the Club made the famous tour of Europe. On the said tour, the crest appeared for the first time in the uniform's jersey pocket. It was a replica of the institutional flag, which had been in use since 1902, and had a transition to a crest format."
