On 4 April 2004 the communes of Broglio, Brontallo, Fusio, Menzonio, Peccia and Prato-Sornico formed the new commune of Lavizzara (see below). It is named after its main valley.

The valley is represented by the green part of the emblem. Unfortunately the sky has been made white, which makes it difficult (and heraldically incorrect) to distinguish it from the likewise white top-triangle, which seems to symbolize the snow covered mountains. The six black rectangles obviously stand for the six old communes. (no regulation source was found)

Broglio (until 3 April 2004)

Argent a pot between two lions rampant reguardant and in chief a mullet of five and in base a fleur de lis all gules.
Željko Heimer, 14 January 2004

The lions on the flag of Broglio are holding a pot (in Italian "laveggio") which is taken from the old seal of the Lavizzara valley. The other symbols alludes to the 4 oldest families of the village: the lions the Coraggioni and Pometta, the star the Pescatore and the fleur de lis the Demaria families.

On the flag of Fusio we have from top to bottom: pot, nails and tobacco. The arms alludes to the families Chiodi (chiodo = nail) and Tabacchi (tabacco = tobacco), the pot (laveggio) being the main symbol of the Lavizzara valley.

The flag of Menzonio comes from a local legend. Before that the seaways to California and Australia were open, the male youth of Menzonio, too numerous in comparison with the possibilities offered by the agriculture, emigrated to Rome. One day, a group of emigrants came back carrying an image of the Blessed Virgin kept in a casket. They stopped a few minutes to have a rest at the entry of the village leaving the casket on the stump of a cherry-tree. When they wanted to take back the casket containing the image, they had the surprise to notice that the casket has united with the cherry-tree, as if it was part of the stump.
