Anger Coat of Arms

Shield Gules two keys Argent in saltire, in chief a scallop of the same, in base a hook of the same.
Meaning:
The tinctures red and silver are those of the Archbishopric of Salzburg, to which the area belonged until 1817. The crossed keys are an attribute of St. Peter and referring to the fact that Anger, which was named Stoißberg until 1937, had been a donation to the St. Peter Archabbey in Salzburg around 1000 and later was acquired by the Augustine Höglwörth Abbey near nowadays Anger. The keys of St. Peter had also been part of the abbey's arms. The abbey had been the most important local manorial lord and owned many forests around the village between the 12th and 19th century and had thus been the economic, cultural and religious centre of the area. The hook was used in order to crane goods, especially stones, and is taken from the arms of the former Högl Municipality and is also referring to the gritstone quarries of Oberhögl, who had been there from the 16th century until 1913. They had been of cross-regional importance for the production of frames for doors and windows, also for grindstones and scythestones. The scallop is an attribute of St. James the Elder, patron saint of Aufham. Högl and Aufham were incorporated into Anger in 1978.

Anger Coat of Arms (until 1978)

Shield Gules two keys Argent in saltire, issuant from base a triplemount Or, chief Argent a fess Gules.
Meaning:
The tinctures red and silver in chief are those of the Archbishopric of Salzburg, to which the area belonged until 1817. The crossed keys are an attribute of St. Peter and had been part of the arms of the St. Peter Archabbey in Salzburg and the Augustine Höglwörth Abbey near the municipality, refering to the fact that Anger, which was named Stoißberg until 1937, was donated to the former around 1000 and was transferrd to the latter probably in 1125. The abbey had been the most important local manorial lord. The triplemount is symbolising the location on top of a mountain ridge and the alpine landscape in the Alps of Berchtesgaden.

The current arms were approved on 30 July 1980 by district governor (Regierungspräsident) of Oberbayern. The old arms were granted in 1957 by Minister of Interior of Bayern and abolished on 30 April 1978. The banners have never been approved officially.
