Coat of Arms

Shield Gules, a heraldic rose Argent in base, in chief an axe Argent hilted Or in bend.
Meaning:
In 2004 the municipalities of Barleben proper, Meitzendorf and Ebendorf merged, forming the new municipality of Mittelland. The new muncipality was renamed in 2005. On 5 October 1937 the province governor (Oberpräsident) of Saxony approved the first arms of Barleben, displaying an embattled wall under an axe (German: Barde). The axe was alluding to the local kin of the Lords of Barleben, and was considered to be canting. The wall was alluding to the castle of the Archbishops of Magdeburg, which disappeared however in 1403. In 2005 the wall was replaced by an heraldic rose.
