Coat of Arms

Shield Azure, an annulet Or filled Gules and charged with a hound's head Argent tongued Azure, the drop ear charged with five points azur in quincunx, in dexter chief a crescent recumbent Or topped by a Latin cross patty Or, in sinister chief a saltire Or with one hooked bar.
Meaning:
The previous arms were approved in 1951 on occasion 1000th anniversary of the village. The arms are based on the symbol on the two oldest seals from 1623 and 1664. The symbol most likely is an annulet gemmed, acc. to source it is referring to the dignitaries of church and bailiwick, which played a role in local history. The annulet without stone remained the central element in the new arms representing Weiterstadt proper. The saltire was taken from the court seal of former Schneppenhausen municipality from 1622. The hound's head was taken from the court seal of Gräfenhausen from 1630. It is also referring to the Imperial Bailiwick of the Lords of Hagen in Dreieich. Cross and crescent are taken from the court seal of Braunshardt from 1683.
The current arms were approved on 1 January 1977, after Gräfenhausen and Schneppenhausen had been incorporated.

Gräfenhausen Coat of Arms

Shield quartered of Gules and Argent, both quarters Gules charged with a hound's head Argent tongued Azure with drop ears charged with 5 points Azure in quincunx.
Meaning:
The basic pattern, quartered of red and white is alluding to the flags of the Bishopric of Würzburg. The hound's head had been the crest of the Lords of Heusenstamm local rulers and vassals of the bishops, the former rulers, before. The arms had been newly created in the 20th, partially based on the local court seals from the 16th century. The seals displayed in a shield parted per pale a human figure wearing a pleated skirt at dexter, either being St. Martin or a "Grebe" , sometimes explained as a village mayor, somestimes as a local militiaman. If that would be sure, the arms would have been canting. At sinister there had been a helmet with the Heusenstamm crest, i.e. the hound.
