Finningen Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale; at dexter Or a unicorn forcene Azure, chief Sable three 6-point stars Or in fess; at sinister Gules, above an embattled round tower Or, abased parted by a fess Argent charged with a Gothic initial "A".
Meaning:
The unicorn is taken from the family arms of the Lords of Finningen, local rulers in Oberfinningen and Unterfinningen between 1268 and 1360. The Benedictine Imperial Abbey of St. Ulrich and St. Afra in Augsburg owned estates in Oberfinningen since 1132 and later acquired the biggest parts of Oberfinningen and Unterfinningen. The land acquisition ended in 1443 under the rule of Abbot Johann Hohensteiner. The possessions became a district (Bavarian: Hofmark) with proper low level cognisance, which existed until 1802. The stars are taken from the personal arms of the abbot. The initial on a white fess is taken from the arms of the Lords of Altheim, who owned the Lordship of Mörslingen and had their seat in Goldburg Castle, which was located on top of the Goldberg. The golden castle is alluding to their seat and thus canting. The municipality of Mörslingen was united with Finningen in 1978.
