Medlingen Coat of Arms

Shield parted per bend embattled, above Or three stag´s footprints Sable in bend, beneath Gules, chief Azure charged with a dog salient Argent holding a torch Or in fess by his mouth.
Meaning:
The municipality was established in 1975 by a merger of Obermedlingen and Untermedlingen in 1975. The arms are basically the version of 1965 of the former municipal arms of Obermedlingen. Dog and torch are taken from the arms of the Dominican Obermedlingen Nunnery, which was founded in 1260 by the Lords of Famingen. On this occasion Obermedlingen was first mentioned. The name had been Frauenmedlingen in the 14th century and later Klostermedlingen until the 16th century. The partition per bend embattled is taken from the arms of the founders, who had been descendants of the Spät kin. The footpronts are taken from the version of 1966 of the former municipal arms of Untermedlingen. They are attributes of St. Radegundis, the local patron saint of Untermedlingen.
