Aue-Bad Schlema Coat of Arms

Shield Azure parted by a wooden bridge Or, on base a fountain Argent, on chief a cogwheel Argent at dexter, an inescutscheon bendy of four of Gules and Argent on centre, hammer and mallet Argent in saltire at sinister.
Meaning:
The colours of the banner are a combination of those of the former flags of Aue and Bad Schlema. The arms also combine elements of both former entities. The bridge is taken from the former city arms of Aue, the fountain from those of the former municipal arms of the spa of Bad Schlema. The cogwheel is alluding to metal working industry, hammer and mallet are referring to mining especially in Aue, the depletion of potash salt and brown coal in the past and of bismuth and uranium in the 20th century. The inescutcheon displays the family arms of its former rulers, the Lords of Schönburg. Aue and Bad Schlema merged in 2019.

Aue Coat of Arms

Shield Azure, two wooden bridges Or connected by pillars of the same, each bridge having two red swallow tail pennants on its rail, base wavy Argent.
Meaning:
Caused by the Augustine Klösterlein Convent the western part of the Erzgebirge was populated since 1143. The importance of the village of Aue increased by mining in the 15th century. Aue was a place of ore mining since the 16th century and also of tin mining since the 17th century. In 1698 kaolin was discovered, which was sold to the famous porcelain manufactory of Meißen. The village suffered under the neighbouring Schneeberg and Schwarzenberg but gained the rights of a market town finally in 1627. Aue was called a city since 1663 but it didn´t achieve a city constitution before 1839. Mining declined and was replaced by textiles industry. In June 1946 the SAG Wismut was established, one of the biggest industrial plants of the former GDR. Mining was revived, now by the depletion of bismuth and uranium. In 1950 Aue succeeded Schwarzenberg as seat of the county.

Bad Schlema Coat of Arms

Shield Argent, a fountain blue flanked by two hands addorsed, the basin of the fountain charged with hammer and mallet Argent, in base an embowed cogwheel Azure at dexter connected with an embowed grain ear Azure at sinister.
Meaning:
Schlema was established by a merger of Oberschlema and Niederschlema in 1958. Hammer and mallet, the symbols of mining, had been part of the former municipal seals of both predecessors. Cobalt was depleted as base of cobalt cerulean blue, which was produced in a local factory, the biggest one worldwide. There had been also textiles industry, paper mills, engine building and an enamelling factory, all represented by the part of a cogwheel. The ear is symbolising agriculture. The fountain is of course representing the spa, which developed since the 20th century, famous for its radium therapy. The hands are symbols of medical care and perhaps also representing both former entities. The prefix "Bad" was added in 2005.
