Reppenstedt Coat of Arms

Shield parted per bend wavy; above left Vert an inescutcheon Argent, charged with a throughout Latin cross Sable cottised Argent and Sable; beneath right Or a horseshoe Sable, in base two oak leaves Vert, one in bend and the other in bend sinister.
Meaning:
The bend wavy is representing the "Alte Lüneburger Landwehr", a system of trenches and earthen walls. Its purpose was to enforce its staple right or stacking right (Latin: Ius emporia), which entitled the city that all merchants crossing Lüneburg had to offer their goods first in the city. The merchant tried of course to avoid it, and thus the city erected the system of walls. The horseshoe is symbolising that the municipality belongs to Lower Saxony, the oak leaves are representing the ancestral Lower Saxonian citizens. Furthermore they are symbolising that the municipality belongs to Gellersen comprehensive municipality. The inescutcheon displays the so called German Eastern Cross, probably derived from the arms of the Teutonic Order. It is symbolising the many refugees that settled down in the area, many of them in Reppenstedt, after they had been expelled due to "ethnic cleansing" at the end of WW2. Reppenstedt is the seat of the comprehensive municipality.
