Aying Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
The celestial blue shield is divided by a silver (= white) pale, which is flanked by a golden (= yellow) branch of palm tree (dexter) and two crowns of the same colour ordered paly (sinister).
Meaning:
The pale is symbolizing the ancient, Roman highway from Augsburg to Salzburg passing the municipality. The branch is alluding to St. Emmeram, patron saint of the local church of pilgrimage, who is said having been tormented in nearby Kleinhelfendorf in 652. The crown are alluding to a court of the Franconian kings of Germany in Kleinhelfendorf, which was donated by Emperor Otto I to the monastery of St. Emmeram in 940. The colours point out that the region was a possession of the Dukes of Bavaria since the 8th century. Aying developed as merger of Helfendorf and Peiß in 1978. Aying overtook the arms oft he former municipality of Helfendorf in 1979.
