Former Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a blue field is an upright silver(=white) ladder with four rungs.
Meaning:
The arms are those of the barons of Oeynhausen. According to source in the village of Rehme(s.below) public salt-works had been erected in 1751. After various spas had been discovered by Karl Baron of Oeynhausen in 1839, the location was renamed into Oeynhausen in 1847 and the rank of a city was granted by the Prussian king already in 1860. According to Veddeler 2003, p.90 the arms were topped by a mural crown with an inscription "1860", which was topped by the Greek Goddess of health, Hygeia, wearing a red robe and holding a cup and the snake of Aesculap in her hands. The locals tried to get rid of those ornaments, but this was refused twice(1935 and 1952) by Staatsarchiv Münster. But in various descriptions the arms nevertheless had been depicted without ornaments.
The coat of arms was granted by the Prussian king on 13 June 1863.
