During the 1972 municipal reform, most of Neuburg upon Donau County (in Schwaben district) —including the city of Neuburg upon Donau was merged with Schrobenhausen county (in Oberbayern district). The new county was called Neuburg-Schrobenhausen and is part of Oberbayern. The capital of Neuburg-Schrobenhausen County is Neuburg/Donau.

Neuburg-Schrobenhausen County Coat of Arms

Shield parted per fess; above parted per pale, at dexter Or a bear head Sable crowned and tongued Gules and armed Argent, at sinister Sable a demi-lion rampant issuant Or crowned, armed and tongued Gules; beneath Argent two bars wavy Azure.
Meaning:
The arms combine the symbols of the old arms of Neuburg, with the bear's head taken from the arms of the city (not the county) of Schrobenhausen.

Neuburg upon Donau County until 1972

During the 1972 municipal reform, part of the county was integrated into Donau-Ries, but most of it —including the town of Neuburg— was merged with Schrobenhausen county (in Oberbayern district).

Neuburg upon Donau Coat of Arms

Shield Sable a lion rampant issuant Or, crowned, armed and tongued Gules, chief Argent two bars wavy Azure.
Meaning:
The arms show in the chief the two main rivers in the district, the Donau [Danube] and the Lech, represented by blue bars wavy. The lower part shows the Palatine lion. From the 13th century onwards the Palatine Counts acquired more and more areas in the county, which finally resulted in the formation of the Principality of Pfalz-Neuburg.

Schrobenhausen County Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale, at dexter lozengy of Argent and Azure, at sinister Gules two grain ears Or in saltire, superimposed by a pallet wavy Argent.
Meaning:
The arms combine the lozenges of the arms of Bayern with symbols for the agriculture and the little Paar river, that runs through the county, symbolised by the pallet wavy. The county was among the oldest possessions of the Wittelsbach kin, Dukes and Kings of Bayern.
