Belgern Coat of Arms

Baroque shield Vert, a church Argent with port and windows Sable, the tower has twin spires Gules and there is an additional ridge tower Argent with roofs Gules, in front of the church an inescutcheon Sable, charged with a hunting horn Or with cord of the same.
Meaning:
Belgern was first mentioned in 973 and had a castle in 983. It was ruled by the Margraves of Meißen and called a city in 1300. It was donated by the margraves to the Cistercian Buch Monastery in 1309 and remained its possession until 1526. Afterwards the city belonged to the Electorate of Sachsen and became a possession of Preußen (Prussia) in 1815. The arms are based on local seals. The great seal of the city council from 1604 displayed a church with a man in armour and an angel as supporters, between both the horn. The lesser seal from 1709 displayed the horn only. The man in armour is said to have been Roland, the Franconian hero in service of Emperor Karl the Great, the horn is said to be his horn Oliphant. The angel is said to be the patron saint of the market. Otto Hupp displayed the church with blue roofs on green base on a red background. Before 2014 the arms had been as follows: Shield Vert a church Argent seen from South with port and windows Sable and roofs Gules, in chief an impending hunting horn Or with cord of the same. The current arms are based on an architectural sculpture on top of the entrance of the city hall in Belgern and probably used without approval.
