Bad Ems Associated Municipality Coat of Arms

Shield Azure a lion rampant Or in chief three fleur-de-lis of the same ordered 1:2, orle of 18 pieces alternating of Or and Azure.
Meaning:
The arms combine the lion of the Counts of Nassau, with the fleur-de-lis of Darmstadt, alluding to St. Mary, its local patron saint. The city had been capital of the Upper County of Katzenelnbogen.. The nine golden parts of the orle are representing the nine municipalities of the associated municipality.

Shield parted per fess, above Azure a demi-lion rampant issuant Or armed and tongued Gules, beneath Or 19 lozenges Azure ordered 7:7:5.
Meaning:
The upper half displays a differentiation of the family arms of the Dukes of Nassau. Each lozenge on the lower half is representing one municipality of the former associated municipality.

Bad Ems Coat of Arms

Shield Azure a knight clad in armour Or and mounted on horse passant Argent bridled Gules dividing his coat Gules by a sword Argent in bend sinister, sitting in front a beggar Argent with loincloth Gules, issuant from chief a sun radiant Or flanked by two pairs of 6-point stars of the same, mural crown Argent with three towers.
Meaning:
The knight is St. Martin, the local patron saint. The saint appeared already on the oldest local seals since 1461. Sun and stars were added in the 17th century. Ems gained the status of a city in 1863 and the prefix "Bad" in 1912.

Dienethal Coat of Arms

Shield Azure semy of billets Or, issuant from base a church Argent, on both hief corners two lion´s heads repspectant Or tongued Gules.
Meaning:
The lion´s heads are a differentiation of the family arms of the Counts of Nassau, rulers of the manorial lordship of Nievern since 1430. The church is a representation of the local Protestant church.

Shield parted per bend sinister, above left Azure semy of billets Or a lion rampant issuant Or armed and tongued Gules, beneath left Or a heraldic rose Gules seeded Azure nad barbed Or flanked by two wolf traps Gules.
Meaning:
The upper half is based on the arms of the Dukes fo Nassau, the lower half on those of the Barons of Stein. The village belonged to Nassau until 1613 and again since 1804. Inbetween it had been a part of the Lordship of Stein.
