Balje Coat of Arms

Shield Azure with base wavy Argent, an impending bell Or with bobbin of the same.
Meaning:
The arms are based on an old legend. The inhabitants of Balje once upon a time abducted the church bells of Brunsbüttel during a flooding of the Eastern bank of river Elbe. Every time with the Western winds the bells murmured "To Brunsbüttel!". Later on during a flooding of the Western bank the people of Brunsbüttel helped the people of Balje, not taking the bells back. Since then the bells kept quiet. The base wavy is of course representing the Elbe River.

Freiburg upon Elbe Coat of Arms

[Freiburg upon Elbe CoA] image from the leaflet of SG Nordkehdingen

Shield Gules, a castle Sable masoned Argent with a closed port Or. The walls are topped by two embattled torrets Argent, each having a triangular shaped gable. Te castle is topped by a pair keys Argent in saltire.
Meaning:
The coat of arms has a long tradition, based on a seal, probably introduced between 1271 and 1294. In the former date Freiburg gained city rights according to the pattern of Stade, in the latter date a constitution of the local council was mentioned. The city rights remainded however defunct and Freiburg remained being a market town (Lower Saxonian: Flecken). The town had been fortified in the middle ages, probably first in 1154 by castle of the Archbishopric of Bremen, represented in the arms by the crossed keys.
A "Flecken" is a denomination, which is, as far as I know, in Northern Germany only used in Lower Saxony. According to Dr.Ulrich March, former headmaster and historician in Bad Bramstedt (Schleswig-Holstein), you can find the "Flecken" already in the names of streets, then called either "Bleek" or "Bleck". A "Flecken" was a town with minor rights in comparison with a city. One substantial right was to have a market. Therefore it might be translated as market town. Today the title is probably without any importance. To gain the title of a city a town needs at least 10,000 inhabitants, unless the title wasn't gained very early.

Meaning:
The arms are partially canting. The bend sinister wavy is symbolising the devious dyke (German: krummer Deich), protecting the marshes against river Elbe. The green colour is symbolising the local marshes. The spade is an important tool used for dyking and drainage.
