Kölleda Coat of Arms

Shield Argent, in base an inescutcheon Sable charged with a maple branch Or in bend with three leaves, issuant from shield an abbot dressed Gules and coated Azure with mitre Gules, holding a crozier Or by his sinister hand and a bunch of grapes Azure by his sinister hand.
Meaning:
The Benedictine Hersfeld Monastery owned local estates since 786 and gained the rule over the village completely around 950. The Counts of Käfernburg-Schwarzburg had been the reeves of the monastery since 1005. They were succeeded by the Counts of Beichlingen in the second half of the 13th century. In the late Medieval the village had been a fiefdom of the Wettin kin. Kölleda had been a market town very early and gained city rights in 1395. A Cistercian Nunnery was founded in 1265 and secularised in 1554. The city council acquired the estates of the nunnery in 1556 together with the low level cognisance. Due to the cultivation of medical plants Kölleda had the nickname Peppermint City. The abbot is St. Wigbert, patron saint of the local parish church and of the Hersfeld Monastery as well. The inescutcheon displays the arms of the Lords of Werthern, who had been successors of the Beichlingen family at the beginning of the 16th century.

Großmonra Coat of Arms

Shield Gules parted abased by an embattled wall Argent masoned Sable, above a key Argent in bend sinister, a gridiron Argent in pale and a branch Argent with three leaves of the same in bend.
Meaning:
The key is an attribute of St. Peter, patron saint of Großmonra proper. The gridiron is an attribute of St. Lawrence, patron saint of Burgwenden. The key furthermore is alluding to the St. Peter´s Abbey in Mainz, which owned several possessions in the area. The branch is taken from the family arms of the Counts of Werthern, who owned an estate in Backleben. The embattled wall is representing the walls around the local churches and the former Monraburg Castle.
