Mähring Coat of Arms

Shield Argent a dragon issuant Gules holding a bladed demi-wheel Sable by his claws, base Sable charged with a door hinge Argent in bend.
Meaning:
Mähring was established in 1978 by a merger of Mähring proper, Dippersreuth, Griesbach and Großkonreuth. The half bladed wheel was taken from the 1968 version of the former arms of Mähring. It is an attribute of St. Catherine, the local patron saint. The dragon is taken from the arms of the Cistercian Waldsassen Monastery and the Benedictine Reichenbach Monastery and is derived from the apocryphal arms of its founders from the Diepoldinger kin. Large parts of the current county belonged to the Hohenstein Provostry of the Reichenbach Monastery, which was sold to the Waldsassen Monastery in 1442. Mähring had been first mentioned as a market town in 1566. The hinge in base is reminding on the Lords of Griesbach, who owned estates in the namesake imperial village.
