Marquartstein Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale, at dexter Argent parted by a stepped gable Sable with four levels, at sinister Azure two batons Argent in saltire charged in centre by a scallop of the same.
Meaning:
The dexter half is known from seals from the 14th century and displays the arms of the Counts of Hohenstein, who died out around 1400. They founded the local castle in the late 11th century, which was acquired by the Counts of Kraiburg-Ortenburg before 1150. Engelbert of Hohenstein had been the local reeve of the Bavarian Dukes after 1276. The sinister half is a differentiation of the family arms of the Barons of Tautphoeus, which displayed four scallops and two batons. Cajetan of Tautphoeus bought and rebuilt the deteriorated castle in 1857.

Banner and arms were approved on 17 October 1951 by Minister of Interior of Bayern. The bicolour has never been approved officially. The municipal arms are based on a draft of Helmut of Tautphoeus.
