Coat of Arms

Shield Or, a warrior Argent with sword dressed blue and holding a lance Gules. The shield is crested by a helmet Argent, scarved Or and Azure and topped by the warrior from the shield, issuant from helmet.
Meaning:
The arms were probably designed in the early 17th century, as city rights were granted in 1605. The warrior already appeared in the oldest known seal, dating from 1624. The man is a canting figure, a "Greben" (medieval militiaman or village mayor), in a 17th century uniform. All later seals and images show the same composition, although the shape, direction and colours of the warrior have changed regularly during the centuries. The above colours are the historical colours used since the 17th century. The current arms display the warrior the way Otto Hupp did it.
