Coat of Arms

Shield Azure, issuant from base a ball Or, standing on ball a bird Argent armed Gules spreading his wings.
Meaning:
Schotten gained city rights in 1354 and 1356 , but the existence of proper seals of the city is proven much later in the 16th century. That seal displayed a shield with a bird on a mountain. This is likely canting for the Vogelsberg region. The name of the city then had been Schotten (Vogelsberg). It may however also be derived from the arms of the Lords of Weinsberg, who also used an eagle-like bird in their arms. In 1326 Konrad of Weinsberg acquired the village.
The arms were approved in 1962 and since then the mountain in base was interpreted as a ball.
