Presentation of the Sisak-Moslavina Couhty

The Sisak-Moslavina County is located in central Croatia, south-east of Zagreb. Its capital, Sisak, is the Croatian capital of heavy industry. Big parts of the County were occupied in the Homeland War, especially southern parts, where the Serb population was considerable. The County is especially known for its many hunting facilities in numerous marshes around river Sava.

The symbols of Sisak-Moslavina County are prescribed by Decision Odluka o grbu i zastavi Županije Sisačko-moslavačke, adopted on 15 September 1994 by the County Assembly and published on 29 September 1994 in the County official gazette Službeni glasnik Županije Sisačko-moslavačke, No. 13.

The flag (photo, Petrinje, 1995; photo; photo, Hrvatska Dubica, 2009) is described in Article 9 of the Decision, as follows:

The flag of Sisak-Moslavina County is composed of three colours: red, white and blue with the coat of arms of the County in its centre.
The ratio of the flag's width to its length is 1:2. The flag begins from left with a red vertical stripe along the entire width of the flag, taking up 1/10 of the entire length. On it continues a white stripe of the same dimensions, while all the remaining field is coloured blue.
In the centre of the flag is the coat of arms of Sisak-Moslavina County. The central point of the coat of arms matches the point where the diagonals of the flag are crossing.

The flag's hoisting is described in Article 12 of the Decision, as follows:

If the flag of Sisak-Moslavina County is displayed across a street or a square in vertical possition on on a table, a stand or some other honourary position, the red stripe comes at the top side, and the coat of arms is rotated so that the crown comes under the white stripe.

The flag also exists in an horizontal version with the red and white stripes, each in width 1/10 of the flag's hoist, placed along the upper edge of the flag, and with the coat of arms in the centre of the blue field. This flag can actually be hoisted vertically (photo, Hrvatska Dubica, October 2015).

In 2009, the Croatian Post Office issued a stamp (notice) in a long-run definitive series picturing various Croatian towns. The stamp issued on 22 January 2009 shows the town of Sisak, with face value of 8.00 kuna. On the stamp are clearly visible flags hoisted from one of the buildings (just under the word HRVATSKA) from left to right: the flag of the town of Sisak, the flag of Croatia and the flag of Sisak-Moslavina County. Further down the street yet another national flag is hoisted.

The coat of arms of Sisak-Mosavina is crowned with a seven-towered mural crown, which originates in the mural crown of the town's arms of Sisak. The stork is a native bird there, but it is also found on the ancient arms of the town of Sisak. The sword stands as a symbol of defense, both in the recent Homeland War and in historic wars against the Ottoman Empire.
