Description

Yellow-black stripes, adopted 22.10.1981; the coat-of-arms is identical to the pre-reform county of the same name. The yellow lion in the black field is the one of the Palatinate (Pfalz), the black lion in a yellow field is the one of the state of Salzburg. From Ralf Hartemink's International Civic Arms website:

The arms were granted in 1968 and confirmed on March 15, 1973.

The arms show in the right half the lion of the Pfalz. The largest part of the district historically belonged to the Pfalz. The black lion in the left part is the lion of the State of Salzburg. The Bishops of Salzburg (now in Austria) also held large possessions in the district, especially around the city of Mühldorf.

Literature: Stadler 1964-1972 [staxx].

Santiago Dotor, 3 December 2003

The arms of the Landkreis (county) was adopted on 24 April 1968, and readopted after the county reform on 15 March 1973. The arms show (blazon): Per pale: Sable, a lion rampant facing sinister Or armed and crowned Gules; and Or, a lion rampant Sable armed Gules. The flag, adopted in 1981, is yellow-black with the arms. Municipal Flags

Landkreis Mühldorf am Inn is 50-80 km east of Munich, to the east and southeast of the Landkreis Erding. My main source is Wanka 1989 [wnk89], a book on the municipal coats-of-arms of this county. This is one of the rare civic heraldry books that also contain at least some information on the flags.

Most of my flag images, however, should be marked as reconstruction. I only know the colours of the flag, and assume, that most of the flags are (as usual here in Bavaria) hanging flags of these colours, having the arms in the center, slightly offset to the top. Up to now I only have photos of two of the flags, and photos of another two can be found in Internet. So the actual flags might differ in detail from the images I made.

Wanka 1989 [wnk89] shows the coats-of-arms of all current 31 municipalities (Gemeinden) —including three cities (Städte) towns and four market-towns (Markt)— but mentions only 15 municipal flags. Some of the municipalities might have adopted their flags after 1989, some might use an unofficial flag, but some most probably have no flag. In addition to the 15 flags mentioned in Wanka 1989 [wnk89] I have information on another four flags.

The following municipalities either do not have a flag, or I have no information on the flag: Aschau, Buchbach, Heldenstein, Jettenbach, Kirchdorf, Neumarkt-St. Veit, Niederbergkirchen, Oberbergkirchen, Oberneukirchen, Obertaufkirchen, Polling, Rechtmehring, Taufkirchen. They all have arms of their own, though.
