Coat of Arms

Shield parted per fess, above Or a demi-lion issuant Gules armed and tongued Azure, beneath Azure three horseshoes Argent ordered 2:1.
Meaning:
The village was the seat of a local court and became a city in 1886. The seals of the court are known by prints since 1619 and the current arms are based on the oldest seal. The lion in the upper part is most likely the lion of the Counts of Katzenelnbogen, as the village had been part of the county. The horseshoes are a distinguishing mark of the city. The combination of the lion with some local sign was very common in the county Katzenelnbogen. The horseshoes (alone) probably had been the older symbol of the city.
The coat of arms was approved on 9 April 1954.
