Introduction of Eiderkanal Subcounty

On 1 January 2007 the subcounty (Amt) of Osterrönfeld and the municipality of Schacht-Audorf merged. The new subcounty received the name Eiderkanal, which had been a predeccessor of the Kiel Canal.

Bovenau Municipal Coat of Arms

The shield is divided per bend sinister battled of five merlons embattled. Above right is a silver (= white) bowl in a red field. Below left is a blue chalice.
Meaning: The five gables are symbolising the manors of Dengelsberg, Georgenthal, Kluvensiek, Osterrade and Steinwehr, which formed the municipality in 1928. The double crenelly line is taken from the seal of Sigridus Dosenrode, manorial lord of Osterrade, dated 1366. The Bronze Age bowl was found in a grave and is a proof of early settlements in the area. The chalice from 1630 had been endowed by Benedict und Christina von Ahlefeld, owners of Osterrade and indicates the importance of Bovenau as a parochial village.

Haßmoor Municipal Coat of Arms

In a green shield is a golden (= yellow), couchant fallow deer topped by three silver (= white) reed maces
Meaning: The number of maces is symbolising the settlement cores of Haßmoor, Höbek and Wittenkamp. The municipality is first mentioned as Harsmore in 1378 and is called Haßmoor in: C. Danckwerth und J. Mejer: "Neue Landesbeschreibung der zwei Herzogtümer Schleswig und Holstein" (New Description of the two Duchies of Schleswig and Holstein) 1649(?). The ensemble of the arms is canting, "Hass=Hart=Hirsch" is represented by the deer, "more-moer=Moor" is represented by the reed maces.

Ostenfeld Municipal Coat of Arms

The shield is divided per fess. Above in a red field is a golden (= yellow), radiant, rising sun. Below the field is fanned out into seven alternating green and golden (= yellow) elements (on flag nine alternating yellow and green elements).
Meaning:
The arms are canting, below is a field and above a rising sun symbolising the East.

It is a blue flag divided by two narrow, yellow, horizontal stripes. The coat of arms is in the central blue stripe and shifted to the hoist.

The golden (= yellow) shield is divided by a blue bend wavy. Below right is a black ceramic bowl surrounded by eight red, equilateral triangles. Above left is a red wheel with eight spokes
Meaning:
The colours of blue and yellow are those of the local sports club since 1919. The bend wavy is symbolising the Wehrau, formerly called "Rönne" (chute) which gave the name of the municipalities of Osterrönfeld and Westerrönfeld. The triangles are symbolising houses. Together with the bowl they are symbolising the settlements in the area since times immemorial. The wheel is symbolising the agility of the inhabitants earning their living in the nearby city of Rendsburg.

Rade Municipal Coat of Arms

The shield is divided by a silver (= white) fess into green over blue. Above are two crossed golden (= yellow) ears of grain. Below are six golden (= yellow) bricks ordered 3:2:1.
Meaning:
The green colour and the grain is symbolising agriculture. The blue colour and the silver fess are symbolising the Kiel Canal. The bricks are alluding to the numerous brickyards, which in the past supplied the nearby city of Rendsburg with bricks in order to build the fortress and the borough of Neuwerk

Schacht-Audorf Municipal Coat of Arms

The shield is silver. Under a blue chevron is the front of a blue ship. The base is blue with four pinnacles, two on each side of the ship.
Meaning:
Schacht and Audorf had been two little villages in the 19th century. In the early 20th century the ironwork "Holstein" and the dockyard "Krögerwerft" settled down here. The ship is alluding to the dockyard. The chevron is representing a curve in the Kiel Canal, where the canal merges with the Eider River.

Schülldorf Municipal Coat of Arms

Shield parted per fess embattled stepped twice in proportions 1:2, above Gules three grain ears Argent in pale ordered per fess, beneath Argent two fish Azure in fess ordered per pale.
Meaning:
The line of partition is taken from the family arms of the Lords of Dosenrode, who owned the village in the 14th century. The ears are symbolising agriculture. The fish are representing two local lakes: Schülldorfer See and Dorfsee. The tinctures are those of Schleswig-Holstein.

Osterrönfeld Subcounty Coat of Arms

In a red shield six silver (= white) oak leaves are grouped around a small disc of the same colour. The stems are pointing towards the disc.
Meaning:
The colours are those of Holstein. The number of leaves is symbolising the municipalities of the former subcounty: Bovenau, Haßmoor, Ostenfeld, Osterrönfeld, Rade and Schülldorf (no proper flag). The leaves are also symbolising forestal riches. The disc is symbolising the subcounty. The subcounty was dissolved on 31 December 2006 and incorporated into Eiderkanal Subcounty on 1 January 2007.
