Neptun Rheinschiffahrt

[Neptun Rheinschiffahrt] image by Eugene Ipavec, 19 Apr 2011

Neptun Rheinschiffahrtgesellschaft m.b.H. (i.e. Neptune Rhine Shipping Co. Ltd) is a German inland shipping company located at Duisburg-Homberg. Website, German only, showing the flag: here.
Under the name "Neptun" actually operate three firms, the main one specialized in shipping and freighting, another one in transporting sand, gravel and the like, and a third in transporting and storing cement, fodder, wheat, etc. In fact all kinds of goods, bulk as well as containerized, may be shipped.
Founded in 1921 by Leon de Vilder from Belgium, specializing in the coal trade with Belgium and France, Neptun expanded by shipping other goods to those countries and to the Netherlands as well. Famous firms such as W.M. M?ller, Lloyd of Basel, NIMV, and IMT were represented on the German market; finally Neptun began operating barges and moved from Ruhrort to Homberg; the two subsidiaries mentioned earlier were founded recently, representing the move towards a logistics chain. Currently Neptun, now a German family affair rather than a Belgian one, cooperates with TMF Operations, France. "Bildergalerie" or gallery (upper menu) offers two important flag photos(clickable), one where the house flag flies on the business seat, the other showing same already appearing in "Flaggen auf dem Rhein" (1952 ed.), See also - hoisted above TMF Operating (not treated now): here.
The house flag is in essence horizontally divided red-white-red with the name "NEPTUN" in black on the central stripe, but not as shown in the drawing on the website! In fact the red stripes are both truncated left and right so as to form isosceles trapeziums (or trapezoids in US parlance) having their respective bases on the flag's horizontal edges.
