Here I attach the new flags used by UEFA. The UEFA flag and the RESPECT UEFA flag were first seen in January 20-27, 2013 during the 2014 UEFA Fustal Euro qualifying matches. They both were "hoisted" (since hoisted means be shown on a big screen) on Friday 24 May 2013 during the XXXVII Ordinary UEFA Congress in London, and during the matches of the 2013 UEFA under-21 Championship in Israel in early June 2013.
Though the flags came into use in 2013, the emblem was actually adopted at the XXXVI Ordynary UEFA Congress in Istanbul, on 22 March 2012.

The 2020 UEFA European Football Championship, commonly referred to as UEFA Euro 2020, or simply Euro 2020, is the 16th UEFA European Championship, the quadrennial international men's football championship of Europe organised by UEFA. Back in 2012 UEFA President Michel Platini said that the tournament was to be hosted in several nations as a "romantic" one-off event to celebrate the 60th "birthday" of the European Championship competition. It was initially scheduled to be hosted in 13 cities, but it was finally reduced down to 11. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the tournament was postponed to 2021 to allow fans at stadiums.

UEFA selected Y&R (originally Young & Rubicam) operating as part of VMLY&R, its parent company, as the creative agency following an international pitch to develop the brand for UEFA EURO 2020. The logo includes a bridge motif which will be incorporated into each host city's logo as well as imagery with monuments, historic buildings and the stadium where the games will take place included. The official logo was unveiled on September 21, 2016, during a ceremony at the City Hall in London. The logo depicts the Henri Delaunay Trophy surrounded by celebrating fans on a bridge, which, according to UEFA, represents how football connects and unifies people. Each individual host city also has their own unique logo. The rectangular logos feature the text "UEFA EURO 2020" on the top, the city name above the text "host city" on the bottom (all in uppercase), the main tournament logo on the left and a local bridge on the right. Each logo exists in English, along with variations in the local language when applicable. The logos were unveiled from September 2016 to January 2017. The main flag features the logo on a blue background which features a stationery made up of all the elements' silhouettes that are part of the brand (i.e. soccer balls, bridges and fans).

UEFA European Qualifiers

"The UEFA European Qualifiers refers to qualifying matches for international association football tournaments in the UEFA zone. It mainly refers to UEFA European Championship qualifying matches for the UEFA European Championship (i,e, Euro 2012). The host country (through its host association and therefore its host team) qualifies automatically for the final tournament. The remaining teams are drawn into groups of five and six teams. The groups are formed by the UEFA administration by means of a draw. Teams from the national associations whose markets have made the greatest contribution to the European Qualifiers revenue are drawn into groups of six teams while respecting the seeding principles. These matches are encompassed in the European Qualifiers Match Calendar". (UEFA and Wikipedia). Its flag is a horizontal crimson background featuring the logo featuring the inscription "EUROPEAN" (on top) "QUALIFIERS" (on bottom), both in white capitals.
Esteban Rivera, 13 August 2021

UEFA commissioned Brandia Central (official website: https://www.brandiacentral.com/ ) a Portuguese brand consulting agency for the creative process of enhancing the European Qualifiers. UEFA | European Qualifiers "Overview The European Qualifiers provide an open stage for all European Nations to prove themselves. European Countries play against each other for a chance to reach the UEFA Euro (aka UEFA European Championship) or the FIFA World Cup. But despite being played by all national teams, it’s still seen as a minor international tournament. Challenge UEFA wants National Teams to regain their position as the pinnacle of the game. Not just in the Euro or the World Cup, but in every official game, namely, the Qualifiers. So, what if the European Qualifiers were positioned as a major competition, not just as a passageway to the Euro or the World Cup? With a strong brand behind it, the competition would attract more sponsors, more media attention, more viewers, and, above all, would help restore the people’s pride in the National Teams. How could we express that in a brand? Brandia Central accepted the challenge and won the project in a European pitch. Solution The European Qualifiers are a competition between nations, which, at its core, is played with heart. Heart is the place love calls home. People usually show the love for their homeland by wearing the national Team’s shirt. We thus created a simple visual icon that combined both shirt and heart. The brand claim became “play proudâ€. Results This brand will be launched in September of 2014." Source: http://www.brandiacentral.com/uk/work/clients/uefa/empowering-football-competition However the same company's website published another report regarding the launching date: "April 15, 2013 Empowering a football tournament UEFA has launched its new branding for the European qualifiers for UEFA EURO 2016, developed by Brandia Central. The visual identity depicts both a national team shirt and a heart. This brand will provide the next 2 European national team-qualifying competitions, with a unique image to be applied across a wide range of promotional applications. The heart shape conveys the brand's essence of “Play with heartâ€. It depicts UEFA’s vision for the European qualifiers: to inspire pride in the national team football. The brand will help enhance the long-term value of the newly centralised European qualifiers, offering a clear and consistent brand platform. With an official European Qualifiers website launched on UEFA.com, social media equivalents will follow. Comprehensive brand guidelines and interactive broadcast toolkits will also be developed, supporting applications into print, broadcast and digital." The 61st FIFA congress was held at Hellenstadion in Zurich, Switzerland on 31 May - 01 June 2011 (www.fifa.com). Flags of the 208 member associations plus those of FIFA six continental confederations, International Olympic Committee, United Nations and FIFA itself were hoisted on the ceiling of Hellenstadion convention center.

CONMEBOL–UEFA Cup of Champions

image by Zachary Harden, 03 July 2022

The CONMEBOL–UEFA Cup of Champions, previously known officially as the European/South American Nations Cup and commonly as the Artemio Franchi Cup has its predecessor in the Copa Artemio Franchi (English: Artemio Franchi Trophy), as the two preceding matches were called. For its current edition, the competition, dubbed "Finalissima 2022" (lit. 'Grand Final') for marketing reasons is the third edition of the CONMEBOL–UEFA Cup of Champions, a football match between the winners of the previous South American and European championships. The match will feature Italy, winners of UEFA Euro 2020 (held in 2021), and Argentina, winners of the 2021 Copa América. It was played at Wembley Stadium in London, England, on 1 June 2022. The match, a revival of the Artemio Franchi Cup last played 29 years prior, is being organised by UEFA and CONMEBOL as part of a renewed partnership between the two confederations. The flag is the logo over a blue horizontal background: "The Finalissima logo is inspired by the laurel wreath, a symbol of achievement and victory, of protection and growth. It consists of ribbons in the colors of the competing nations - Italy's Tricolore and Argentina's Albiceleste - clustered around the distinctive trophy. The (golden) ribbons are symbolic of the strong bond between CONMEBOL and UEFA and their commitment to developing football beyond their geographical borders. The brand also underlines the importance of a match between the best teams from the two continents, who have provided every world champion to date. Among the bands that meander across the deep blue background are several made of platinum and gold, the world's most precious metals." It was unveiled on March 24, 2022.
